The 5th Asian--Pacific International Congress of Anatomists

The 5th Asian--Pacific International Congress of Anatomists was held in Tehran, Iran from May 15 to 20, 2008. This conference is the highest level meeting of anatomy in the Asian-pacific region, which is held every three years. So this conference attracted anatomists from more than 10 countries in the Asian-pacific region to present at the meeting and make a report. This conference has admitted more than four hundred papers, whose authors came from more than 20 countries, such as Iran, the United States, Britain, Germany, China, Japan, South Korea, Turkey and so on. Professor Liu Shuwei, who is the executive director of Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences, is the only present Chinese Mainland mission with two doctoral students.

Professor Liu Shuwei gave a report entitled "Re-recognition of Chinese hepatic segment", which introduced the research of sectional anatomy and imaging reconstruction on the Chinese liver. Professor Liu also offered a new division method "Seven Category" which was different from the classic Couinaud hepatic segment division method. After the report, professor Liu answered the questions which were asked by professors and students from different countries patiently and carefully.

As a doctoral candidate of Professor Liu, Sun Bo gave a report entitled "The pineal region: Thin sectional anatomy with MR correlation in the coronal plane". This report mainly introduced the research of the important anatomic structures in the pineal region by frozen section method and illustrated the neighboring relationships of the structures which could provide some morphological basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Another doctor Fan Lingzhong gave a report entitled "The deep cerebellar nuclei: a comparative study between thin transverse sectional anatomy and magnetic resonance imaging".
