Introduction to Sectional Anatomy Course

With the development and applications in the disease diagnosis and treatment of Ultrasonography (USG), X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Sectional Anatomy has become another human anatomy course after Systematic Anatomy and Regional Anatomy. This course has important theoretical and realistic significance for training clinicians who adapt to the era requests.

In the autumn of 1989, our school acted as pioneer in launching sectional anatomy courses for graduate students domestically. In the autumn of 1994, we began to give sectional anatomy course for English class and seven-year medical students in bilingual teaching. In 2005, we started to teach oversea medical students sectional anatomy in English. In 1997, the educational reform project, which title is “Setting up Sectional Anatomy course along with the development of modern medical imaging”, was completed and won the second prize of national teaching achievement. We edited the bilingual textbook of sectional anatomy, English Chinese Terms of Human Anatomy, bilingual atlas of human sectional anatomy, CAI courseware and series of sectional anatomy audio-visual teaching material for undergraduate and graduate students. Those materials are widely used by medical students in China and become the dominant teaching materials of human sectional anatomy. Sectional Anatomy course of our school became a national bilingual teaching program in 2007 and was named a national fine-designed course in 2009.

Since 1993, we have sponsored 18 national study classes of Sectional and Imaging Anatomy (the national project of continuing medical education) and trained more than 1600 professional workers in the area of anatomy and radiology across China. These participants have grown into the backbone of teaching and research on sectional anatomy in our country.
